Phil Staveley

Phil graduated from St Andrew’s University in 1980 and joined Jardine Matheson in Hong Kong. On returning to the UK in 1985 he became an Asian equities stockbroker, establishing and running businesses for County Natwest, Smith New Court and Merrill Lynch. In 2001 he joined Deutsche Bank where he built the first ever composite Global Emerging Markets distribution platform, before retiring from the industry in 2008.

Since that time he has been a freelance journalist, active private investor, and property developer. In 2012 he bought a stake in Amphora Portfolio Management which he has helped transform into the leading fine wine investment advisory, winning the Fine Wine Investment Adviser of the Year award for 2014 and 2015.

Phil is passionate about most ball games, was a double rugby and cricket blue at university, and played twice in the HK Sevens. Although he now restricts his active involvement to cricket and golf, he is a debenture holder at Twickenham and is an avid rugby fan.
